Solar panel cleaning that protects more than the glass.

Professional residential and commercial solar panel cleaning across Cape Town—planned around access, panel condition and your valuable installation.

Why dirty panels matter

Solar modules work when light reaches the cells beneath the glass. Cape Town dust, pollen, traffic film, salt aerosol and bird droppings can reduce that light. The actual production impact differs from system to system, but persistent fouling is never part of an ideal operating environment.

Our cleaning process

  • Confirm panel count, roof access and visible risks.
  • Plan work for suitable surface and weather conditions.
  • Use non-abrasive, solar-conscious tools and controlled water.
  • Work around frames, cables and roof finishes without walking on panels.
  • Provide a clear handover and note visible concerns.

Residential solar care

Your solar array is a major household investment. Our residential service is designed for homeowners who value careful access, clean work areas and straightforward communication.

Commercial arrays

For single- and double-storey offices, retail sites, schools, warehouses and body corporates, we scope panel count, access controls, operational timing and documentation. Buildings above two storeys fall outside our current insurance scope.

Pricing guide

Up to 12 panels from R1,500; 13–20 panels from R2,200; 21–30 panels from R3,000. Call for larger systems. Prices may vary depending on roof access and condition. Service is limited to properties of no more than two storeys.

Frequently asked

How often should solar panels be cleaned in Cape Town?

Most systems benefit from an inspection every six months and cleaning when visible dust, salt, pollen or bird fouling accumulates. Coastal, industrial and bird-heavy sites may need more frequent care.

Does rain clean solar panels?

Rain can move loose dust, but it rarely removes bonded dirt, salt film, pollen or bird droppings. It can also leave mineral marks as the glass dries.

Can dirty solar panels produce less power?

Yes. Soiling shades parts of the glass and can reduce the light reaching the cells. The impact varies by site, season, system layout and type of contamination.

What equipment do you use to clean solar panels?

Sunflow uses professional Kärcher solar-panel cleaning equipment designed for careful, non-abrasive cleaning. The exact setup is selected for the array, access conditions and level of build-up.

Will you walk on my solar panels?

No. Panels are not designed to be walked on. Our process plans access around the array and treats the installation as a valuable asset.

What causes solar panels to get dirty?

Cape Town panels collect dust, pollen, salt air, traffic film, ash, leaves and bird droppings. Tilt, wind direction and nearby trees influence the rate.

Can bird droppings damage panels?

Persistent fouling can create severe local shading and may be difficult to remove after it bakes onto hot glass. Early, gentle removal is preferable.
