Can You Pressure-Wash Solar Panels?

Why Sunflow does not pressure-wash solar panels, and what Cape Town owners should know about seals, frames, glass and safer cleaning methods.

The short answer

Sunflow does not pressure-wash solar panels. High-pressure water introduces unnecessary force around glass, seals, frames, cabling and roof finishes. A controlled, non-abrasive process using purpose-suited solar-panel cleaning equipment is the more responsible approach.

Key takeaways

  • Do not aim high-pressure water at solar modules or electrical components.
  • Never walk on panels to reach difficult areas.
  • Avoid abrasive pads and harsh household chemicals.
  • Follow the panel manufacturer’s maintenance guidance.

Why pressure is not the same as effective cleaning

The goal is to remove contamination without creating avoidable risk. More water pressure does not necessarily remove baked bird fouling, sticky pollen or coastal film safely. It can also drive water and debris into places where a controlled surface-cleaning process would not.

Consider the whole installation

A solar array includes more than glass. Frames, seals, mounting hardware, roof penetrations, cabling and nearby electrical equipment all need to be respected. The roof surface itself may also be unsuitable for aggressive washing or uncontrolled runoff.

What professional equipment changes

Sunflow uses professional Kärcher solar-panel cleaning equipment selected for the array, access conditions and type of build-up. The method remains non-abrasive and controlled. Equipment supports the process; it does not remove the need for safe access planning, suitable weather and careful workmanship.

What owners should avoid

Do not scrape panels with metal tools, use scouring pads, stand on modules or introduce abrupt temperature changes to hot glass. If manufacturer documentation specifies a particular cleaning method or restriction, that guidance should be followed for the specific installation.

How Sunflow can help

Sunflow provides focused solar-panel and gutter cleaning for eligible single- and double-storey properties across Cape Town. Every booking is subject to safe access, roof condition and a confirmed scope. Buildings above two storeys fall outside our current insurance limits.
